And We gave understanding of it [i.e., the case] to Solomon, and to each [of them] We gave judgement and knowledge. And We subjected the mountains to exalt [Us], along with David and [also] the birds. And We were doing [that].1
Translation: Saheeh International (English)
1 Meaning that Allāh has always been capable of accomplishing whatever He wills.
فَفَهَّمۡنَٰهَاAnd We gave understanding of itfafahhamnāhā
سُلَيۡمَٰنَۚ(to) Sulaimansulaymāna
وَكُلًّاand (to) eachwakullan
ءَاتَيۡنَاWe gaveātaynā
حُكۡمٗاjudgmentḥuk'man
وَعِلۡمٗاۚand knowledgewaʿil'man
وَسَخَّرۡنَاAnd We subjectedwasakharnā
مَعَwithmaʿa
دَاوُۥدَDawuddāwūda
ٱلۡجِبَالَthe mountainsl-jibāla
يُسَبِّحۡنَ(to) glorify Our praisesyusabbiḥ'na
وَٱلطَّيۡرَۚand the birdswal-ṭayra
وَكُنَّاAnd We werewakunnā
فَٰعِلِينَthe Doersfāʿilīna
Tafsir
I gave full understanding of the case to Solomon instead of his father David; yet I blessed each one with messengership and knowledge of religious law, not exclusively Solomon only. I subjugated the mountains for David, which would glorify Me with his glorifying Me. I also subjugated the birds for him. I was the One Who gave the understanding, the fair judgement, knowledge and it was I who subjugated the mountains and birds.
