Surah Al-Waqi'ah

Al-Waqi'ah

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ ١

When the Occurrence occurs,

56:1

لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ ٢

There is, at its occurrence, no denial.

56:2

خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ ٣

It will bring down [some] and raise up [others].

56:3

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا ٤

When the earth is shaken with convulsion

56:4

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا ٥

And the mountains are broken down, crumbling

56:5

فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا ٦

And become dust dispersing,

56:6

وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ ٧

And you become [of] three kinds:

56:7

فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ ٨

Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?

56:8

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ ٩

And the companions of the left - what are companions of the left?

56:9

وَٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّٰبِقُونَ ١٠

And the forerunners, the forerunners -

56:10

أُوْلَٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ ١١

Those are the ones brought near [to Allāh]

56:11

فِي جَنَّٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ١٢

In the Gardens of Pleasure,

56:12

ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ١٣

A [large] company of the former peoples

56:13

وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ١٤

And a few of the later peoples,

56:14

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ ١٥

On thrones woven [with ornament],

56:15

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ ١٦

Reclining on them, facing each other.

56:16

يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ ١٧

There will circulate among them young boys made eternal

56:17

بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ ١٨

With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring -

56:18

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ ١٩

No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated -

56:19

وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ ٢٠

And fruit of what they select

56:20

وَلَحۡمِ طَيۡرٖ مِّمَّا يَشۡتَهُونَ ٢١

And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire.

56:21

وَحُورٌ عِينٞ ٢٢

And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes,

56:22

كَأَمۡثَٰلِ ٱللُّؤۡلُوِٕ ٱلۡمَكۡنُونِ ٢٣

The likenesses of pearls well-protected,

56:23

جَزَآءَۢ بِمَا كَانُواْ يَعۡمَلُونَ ٢٤

As reward for what they used to do.

56:24

لَا يَسۡمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغۡوٗا وَلَا تَأۡثِيمًا ٢٥

They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin -

56:25

إِلَّا قِيلٗا سَلَٰمٗا سَلَٰمٗا ٢٦

Only a saying [of] peace, peace.

56:26

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ٢٧

The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right?

56:27

فِي سِدۡرٖ مَّخۡضُودٖ ٢٨

[They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed

56:28

وَطَلۡحٖ مَّنضُودٖ ٢٩

And [banana] trees layered [with fruit]

56:29

وَظِلّٖ مَّمۡدُودٖ ٣٠

And shade extended

56:30

وَمَآءٖ مَّسۡكُوبٖ ٣١

And water poured out

56:31

وَفَٰكِهَةٖ كَثِيرَةٖ ٣٢

And fruit, abundant [and varied],

56:32

لَّا مَقۡطُوعَةٖ وَلَا مَمۡنُوعَةٖ ٣٣

Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden,

56:33

وَفُرُشٖ مَّرۡفُوعَةٍ ٣٤

And [upon] beds raised high.

56:34

إِنَّآ أَنشَأۡنَٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءٗ ٣٥

Indeed, We have produced them [i.e., the women of Paradise] in a [new] creation

56:35

فَجَعَلۡنَٰهُنَّ أَبۡكَارًا ٣٦

And made them virgins,

56:36

عُرُبًا أَتۡرَابٗا ٣٧

Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age,

56:37

لِّأَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ٣٨

For the companions of the right [who are]

56:38

ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٣٩

A company of the former peoples

56:39

وَثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ٤٠

And a company of the later peoples.

56:40

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ ٤١

And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left?

56:41

فِي سَمُومٖ وَحَمِيمٖ ٤٢

[They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water

56:42

وَظِلّٖ مِّن يَحۡمُومٖ ٤٣

And a shade of black smoke,

56:43

لَّا بَارِدٖ وَلَا كَرِيمٍ ٤٤

Neither cool nor beneficial.

56:44

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُواْ قَبۡلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتۡرَفِينَ ٤٥

Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence,

56:45

وَكَانُواْ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلۡحِنثِ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٤٦

And they used to persist in the great violation,

56:46

وَكَانُواْ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗا وَعِظَٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبۡعُوثُونَ ٤٧

And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected?

56:47

أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلۡأَوَّلُونَ ٤٨

And our forefathers [as well]?"

56:48

قُلۡ إِنَّ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ ٤٩

Say, [O Muḥammad], "Indeed, the former and later peoples

56:49

لَمَجۡمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَٰتِ يَوۡمٖ مَّعۡلُومٖ ٥٠

Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day."

56:50

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمۡ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبُونَ ٥١

Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers,

56:51

لَأٓكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٖ مِّن زَقُّومٖ ٥٢

Will be eating from trees of zaqqūm

56:52

فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنۡهَا ٱلۡبُطُونَ ٥٣

And filling with it your bellies

56:53

فَشَٰرِبُونَ عَلَيۡهِ مِنَ ٱلۡحَمِيمِ ٥٤

And drinking on top of it from scalding water

56:54

فَشَٰرِبُونَ شُرۡبَ ٱلۡهِيمِ ٥٥

And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels.

56:55

هَٰذَا نُزُلُهُمۡ يَوۡمَ ٱلدِّينِ ٥٦

That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense.

56:56

نَحۡنُ خَلَقۡنَٰكُمۡ فَلَوۡلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ ٥٧

We have created you, so why do you not believe?

56:57

أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تُمۡنُونَ ٥٨

Have you seen that which you emit?

56:58

ءَأَنتُمۡ تَخۡلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡخَٰلِقُونَ ٥٩

Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator?

56:59

نَحۡنُ قَدَّرۡنَا بَيۡنَكُمُ ٱلۡمَوۡتَ وَمَا نَحۡنُ بِمَسۡبُوقِينَ ٦٠

We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone

56:60

عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمۡثَٰلَكُمۡ وَنُنشِئَكُمۡ فِي مَا لَا تَعۡلَمُونَ ٦١

In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know.

56:61

وَلَقَدۡ عَلِمۡتُمُ ٱلنَّشۡأَةَ ٱلۡأُولَىٰ فَلَوۡلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٦٢

And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember?

56:62

أَفَرَءَيۡتُم مَّا تَحۡرُثُونَ ٦٣

And have you seen that [seed] which you sow?

56:63

ءَأَنتُمۡ تَزۡرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ ٦٤

Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower?

56:64

لَوۡ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلۡنَٰهُ حُطَٰمٗا فَظَلۡتُمۡ تَفَكَّهُونَ ٦٥

If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder,

56:65

إِنَّا لَمُغۡرَمُونَ ٦٦

[Saying], "Indeed, we are [now] in debt;

56:66

بَلۡ نَحۡنُ مَحۡرُومُونَ ٦٧

Rather, we have been deprived."

56:67

أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلۡمَآءَ ٱلَّذِي تَشۡرَبُونَ ٦٨

And have you seen the water that you drink?

56:68

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنزَلۡتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلۡمُزۡنِ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنزِلُونَ ٦٩

Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down?

56:69

لَوۡ نَشَآءُ جَعَلۡنَٰهُ أُجَاجٗا فَلَوۡلَا تَشۡكُرُونَ ٧٠

If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful?

56:70

أَفَرَءَيۡتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِي تُورُونَ ٧١

And have you seen the fire that you ignite?

56:71

ءَأَنتُمۡ أَنشَأۡتُمۡ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمۡ نَحۡنُ ٱلۡمُنشِـُٔونَ ٧٢

Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer?

56:72

نَحۡنُ جَعَلۡنَٰهَا تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَمَتَٰعٗا لِّلۡمُقۡوِينَ ٧٣

We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers,

56:73

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٧٤

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

56:74

۞ فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ ٧٥

Then I swear by the setting of the stars,

56:75

وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٞ لَّوۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ ٧٦

And indeed, it is an oath - if you could know - [most] great.

56:76

إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرۡءَانٞ كَرِيمٞ ٧٧

Indeed, it is a noble Qur’ān.

56:77

فِي كِتَٰبٖ مَّكۡنُونٖ ٧٨

In a Register well-protected;.

56:78

لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلۡمُطَهَّرُونَ ٧٩

None touch it except the purified [i.e., the angels].

56:79

تَنزِيلٞ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلۡعَٰلَمِينَ ٨٠

[It is] a revelation from the Lord of the worlds.

56:80

أَفَبِهَٰذَا ٱلۡحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدۡهِنُونَ ٨١

Then is it to this statement that you are indifferent

56:81

وَتَجۡعَلُونَ رِزۡقَكُمۡ أَنَّكُمۡ تُكَذِّبُونَ ٨٢

And make [the thanks for] your provision that you deny [the Provider]?

56:82

فَلَوۡلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلۡحُلۡقُومَ ٨٣

Then why, when it [i.e., the soul at death] reaches the throat

56:83

وَأَنتُمۡ حِينَئِذٖ تَنظُرُونَ ٨٤

And you are at that time looking on -

56:84

وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنكُمۡ وَلَٰكِن لَّا تُبۡصِرُونَ ٨٥

And We [i.e., Our angels] are nearer to him than you, but you do not see -

56:85

فَلَوۡلَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ غَيۡرَ مَدِينِينَ ٨٦

Then why do you not, if you are not to be recompensed,

56:86

تَرۡجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمۡ صَٰدِقِينَ ٨٧

Bring it back, if you should be truthful?

56:87

فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبِينَ ٨٨

And if he [i.e., the deceased] was of those brought near [to Allāh],

56:88

فَرَوۡحٞ وَرَيۡحَانٞ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٖ ٨٩

Then [for him is] rest and bounty and a garden of pleasure.

56:89

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ٩٠

And if he was of the companions of the right,

56:90

فَسَلَٰمٞ لَّكَ مِنۡ أَصۡحَٰبِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ ٩١

Then [the angels will say], "Peace for you; [you are] from the companions of the right."

56:91

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ٩٢

But if he was of the deniers [who were] astray,

56:92

فَنُزُلٞ مِّنۡ حَمِيمٖ ٩٣

Then [for him is] accommodation of scalding water

56:93

وَتَصۡلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ ٩٤

And burning in Hellfire.

56:94

إِنَّ هَٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلۡيَقِينِ ٩٥

Indeed, this is the true certainty,

56:95

فَسَبِّحۡ بِٱسۡمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلۡعَظِيمِ ٩٦

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

56:96
