مَا Not mā كَانَ (it) is kāna لِلَّهِ for Allah lillahi أَن that an يَتَّخِذَ He should take yattakhidha مِن any son min وَلَدٖۖ any son waladin سُبۡحَٰنَهُۥٓۚ Glory be to Him sub'ḥānahu إِذَا When idhā قَضَىٰٓ He decrees qaḍā أَمۡرٗا a matter amran فَإِنَّمَا then only fa-innamā يَقُولُ He says yaqūlu لَهُۥ to it lahu كُن Be kun فَيَكُونُ and it is fayakūnu Tafsir It does not befit Allah to have a son, exalted and free He is from this. When He intends something, it is enough for Him to say regarding this thing: Be, and it most definitely becomes. So He who is like this is free from having a son.
