Al-Ahzab 36

Ayah 36 of 73 · Medinan

وَمَا كَانَ لِمُؤۡمِنٖ وَلَا مُؤۡمِنَةٍ إِذَا قَضَى ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥٓ أَمۡرًا أَن يَكُونَ لَهُمُ ٱلۡخِيَرَةُ مِنۡ أَمۡرِهِمۡۗ وَمَن يَعۡصِ ٱللَّهَ وَرَسُولَهُۥ فَقَدۡ ضَلَّ ضَلَٰلٗا مُّبِينٗا ٣٦

It is not for a believing man or a believing woman, when Allāh and His Messenger have decided a matter, that they should [thereafter] have any choice about their affair. And whoever disobeys Allāh and His Messenger has certainly strayed into clear error.

  18. يَعۡصِdisobeysyaʿṣi
  19. ٱللَّهَAllahl-laha
  20. وَرَسُولَهُۥand His Messengerwarasūlahu
  21. فَقَدۡcertainlyfaqad
  22. ضَلَّhe (has) strayedḍalla
  23. ضَلَٰلٗا(into) errorḍalālan
  24. مُّبِينٗاclearmubīnan

Tafsir

It is not correct for a believing man or woman when Allah and His Messenger decide a matter for them that they have a choice in accepting or rejecting it. Whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger has clearly deviated from the straight path.
